Welcome to the Sheltering Stitch

WHAT WE DO
The Sheltering Stitch collects hand-knit goods for our city’s most vulnerable citizens, the homeless. Vancouver's homeless men and women face unimaginable daily hardships and challenges, including the constant, bitter struggle against damp and cold.Last year, over 2100 people were homeless in our city. More than half those counted lived on the street, without access to shelters or beds.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Knit warmth and comfort into a hat, mittens, a sweater, a scarf, socks or even a blanket, and help keep someone alive this winter. The Sheltering Stitch also accepts donations of clean, quality yarn. Donated yarn will be sorted, then knit by volunteers into much needed items. Donated knitting needles will also be accepted.Whether you donate from your stash, or knit just one extra of your favourite project, the time you take will mean so much to those who need it most.

WHERE YOU CAN DONATE
Finished knitted items can be dropped off at our very generous sponsor, Urban Yarns (4421 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver) Monday to Saturday, 10:00a.m - 5:30p.m and Sundays, noon - 5:00p.m. Items will be collected and sorted by The Sheltering Stitch, then delivered to Lower Mainland homeless outreach programs.

WHO YOU WILL HELP
Our first donation partnership is with The Lookout Emergency Aid Society. We look forward to more partnerships as the program expands.
